(EN) La Pola de Gordón and the Biosphere Reserve of the High Bernesga
The students of the Pola de Gordon High School live in the Biosphere Reserve of the High Bernesga. This is an area of rugged mountains, narrow valleys, forests, and shrublands, which are representative of nearly all ecosystems that exist in the Cantabrian Mountains, including its unique flora and fauna.
Folds, faults, and erosive marks form layers and reveal minerals within the rocks that show the fascinating geological history of the area.
Thousands of years of human occupation and the introduction of mining and coomunication routes infrastructure, farms, and traditional agriculture have helped form a landscape that has earned worldwide recognition.
This is our home, a special environment surrounded by nature and history.
By participating in this project, we intend to learn about and understand the landscape around us and enjoy it with wisdom and respect, by conducting research, navigating the territory,... We also plan to promote the area by writing texts and speaking about it in Spanish and English.

(ES) La Pola de Gordón y la Reserva de la Biosfera del Alto Bernesga
Las localidades donde viven los alumnos y alumnas del Instituto se encuentran dentro de la Reserva de la Biosfera del Alto Bernesga. Se trata de una zona de escarpadas montañas y estrechos valles, con bosques y matorrales representativos de casi todos los ecosistemas que hay en la Cordillera Cantábrica, incluyendo su fauna y flora más característica y única.
Los pliegues, fallas y marcas erosivas de las rocas de la zona dibujan estratos y descubren minerales que evidencian la fascinante historia geológica de la zona.
La presencia humana, perceptible desde hace milenios, ha terminado de conformar un paisaje que ha merecido reconocimiento mundial, con sus infraestructuras mineras, de comunicaciones y explotaciones ganaderas y agrícolas tradicionales.
Vivimos, así, rodeados de naturaleza e historia, en un entorno muy especial.
En este proyecto, hemos intentado que los conocimientos y habilidades que se aprenden en el instituto ayuden a entender este paisaje que nos rodea , a disfrutarlo con sabiduría y respeto, y a comunicarlo y difundirlo: redactando textos, investigando, orientándonos en el territorio, caminando, exponiendo, hablando en inglés,...
